Bennett Hay has been working with Landsec to create seamless workplace experiences
Bennett Hay has been named Top 30 winner of The Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2017, for the third year running. The Best Places to Work in Hospitality awards shine the spotlight on hospitality operators who demonstrate exceptional skill at employee engagement, which promotes a happy, motivated – and in turn productive – workforce.
Claire Huish, Colleague Service Manager commented: “The people who make up the Bennett Hay team are our most valuable resource. As a company we want to do whatever we can to make a positive difference to our people’s happiness and wellbeing. We’re delighted that our colleagues have reconfirmed our employer of choice status in the competition confidential survey run in partnership with Purple Cubed. For the third year running the survey results helped us better understand what really matters to our people. This year team dynamics and how new individuals fit in with any existing team structures has become more important. Our focus on relationships and carefully planned induction programme help us to be successful in these areas. Bennett Hay’s values also play a big role in both our hiring decisions and performance management, in our colleagues’ own words: ‘respect for work/life balance’; ‘being part of a team that respects each other’; ‘good communication with my manager’; ‘good environment to be in’ have been tremendously valued by our colleagues.”
Employee engagement is critical for the hospitality industry, in which a high turnover rate remains a considerable challenge. According to a report from Deloitte, Hospitality 2015 – Game Changers or Spectators, employee turnover in hospitality can be as high as 31%, which is nearly double the average rate for other industries.
Bennett Hay emphasises work-life balance, career and personal development, good communications and training, shared values, inspirational leadership, and more. Successful employee engagement initiatives to date have included an annual dinner and dance for the entire Bennett Hay family with Guest First awards for teams and individuals who’ve made an outstanding contribution to the business; a Transformational Training Academy; an employee volunteering scheme run by Benefacto and an equity share ownership programme.
Robin Hay, co-founder of Bennett Hay said: “We keep finding creative ways of engaging and retaining our colleagues as we recognise that the strength of our employer brand has a major impact on our service delivery. As a bespoke hospitality provider, we see that happy employees mean happy customers and this is the link that directly supports our mission of creating memorable guest service experiences for our clients.”
